"Spooky Poems" October Lunchnotes 2018

"Try to remember,
The first of October.
When even your school,
is a haven for ghouls.
When goblins and spooks,
they all hit the books.
Lessons in nightmares,
in shocks and in scares...
Beware!"

~~~
From deep within the darkest corner~
something began to stir.
The shadows started to take form~
that 'something' let out a "Grrrr!".
Those shadows seemed to stretch and grow~
a groan and then a creak.
From deep within that darkest corner~
the 'thing' began to sneak!
One lurching step-one grunt-one moan~
the terror makes you shake.
The monstrous form above you looms~
The Mami is awake!
~~~

The thunder roared~
the lightning flashed~
It was a dark and stormy night.
You curled up snug~
and hid your head~
And tried to block both sound and sight.

Tucked up like that~
you couldn't see~
But if you could you'd have a fright.
For twixt the crash~
and boom~and flash~
A shadow swallowed up the light.

It sneaked~and snuck~
to you all tucked~
So unaware of your own plight.
It snickered~snarled~
prepped and pounced~
The Katja jumped in for a bite!

~~~
Time stands still,
in early morning~
A single bird,
sounds the warning.
From the gloom,
a groan breaks through~
A shriek, a squeal,
fear comes, anew.
You brace yourself,
for what will come~
Knowing that
you must succumb.
From out of the fog,
two eyes appear~
Glowing fiercely,
it draws near.
You shudder,
square your shoulders back~
The monster looms,
brace for attack.
A shudder here,
a shiver there~
You feel disturbance
in the air.
A quick embrace,
fear for our lives~
Then brave to face fate...
the BUS arrives.
~~~

In the silence~
out of nowhere~
something dreadful~
pierces the air.

Bolt upright!
Your heart is racing!
In defense~
your body bracing.

The room is dark~
you cannot see~
the danger~
from which you should flee.

You hear it shriek~
it means you harm!
But wait! Oh no!
 It's just the alarm!

~~~
Did you hear that? What's that sound?
Quick-we have to look around!
Something's coming-can't you see?
I can feel its eyes on me!
Watch it writhing-hear it moan!
Closer still-I sense it groan!
Snapping-cracking-as it nears-
Stalking me! I'm close to tears!
Hulking mass-it stumbles out.
For escape, I cast about.
Short of breath-blood congealed.
Surely now my fate is sealed!
Grumbling-lurching-right on cue!
It reaches out...
Oh!
It's...You!
Good morning!
~~~

What is scary? What's a fright?
What wakes you in the dark of night?

What makes you cry? What haunts your dreams?
What thought makes you break out in screams?

Are you shaking? Are you scared?
In defense? Are you prepared?

It's coming now. The month is here.
October animates that fear.

Shriek in terror. Try to flee.
You can't escape the horror though....
We're out of coffee!
😱
!

~~~
'twas night, when it did first appear,
when first you felt that hint of fear.
It slipped out from some hidden hole,
and made a bee-line for your soul...err...sole.
It snuck out from the shadows, there,
and crept up on you, unaware.
The pounce it did. And snarl. And growl,
At which you promptly set to howl!
It had you by the pinky toe!
That monstrous creature! Katja! NO!!!
~~~

At night, when you are trying to sleep,
that monster becomes such a creep!

It pokes and prods, gets hot, then cold.
It alternates it's stranglehold.

You toss and turn, and want to cry.
"No Sleep For You!", is its reply!

Time stands still, then flashes past.
You somehow doze. Drift off at last.

And morning breaks-the monster wakes,
it snuggles up and soothes your aches!

It wraps you up in arms of fluff,
and whispers that you've had enough.

It holds you close and soothes your head.
Then swallows you whole!
That Monstrous Bed!
😱
!

~~~
The scariest sound I've ever heard,
was just a single word.
It had a power, all its own,
to chill me to the bone.
It split the silence like a
⚡️
crack
⚡️
.
It gave me a near heart attack!
That scary sound, what was it though?
Oh, brace yourself! The word was...
NO
‼️
~~~

I shook my head-got out of bed-
and bid the nightmare end.
The coffee brewed-but still, this mood-
of terror did descend.

My fear was stark! The room so dark!
And, oh, so very cold!
My heart did race. I hid my face.
Neither brave nor bold.

I tasked my mind-some peace to find-
fear somehow to allay.
But still I grew-as day dawned new-
and showed up as...
〽️👁NDAY

Ps- Garfield says "Eeeeeek!"

~~~
Was that the sound~
of a witch's cackle?
Have we been found?
Go see!
Was that the brush~
of a witch's broomstick?
A 'fly-by' rush?
Go see!
Was that the smell~
of a witch's cauldron?
Casting a spell?
Go see!
Was that the growl~
of a witch's black cat?
That fearsome howl?
Go see!
Was that the glare~
of 'witch' we fear?
Reflected there?
Go see!
Oh, no!
Oh, wait!
Oh, dear!
It's me!
~~~

Have you ever walked~
in the woods at night~
when the moon is shrouded~
and you can't rely on sight?

Have you felt your way~
as you made your flight~
every rustle and crack~
increasing your fright?

Have you made it safely~
through dark to bright~
and felt relief~
when you're bathed in light?

Have you thought yourself free~
of that fearsome plight?
You fool! Beware!
It's coming in for a bite!

Bzzz...Bzzz...Bzzz...oh, no! It's the MOSQUITO!

~~~
The stroke of twelve~
the crack of dawn~
I'm not sure which one's worst.
To bed too late~
awake too soon~
for sure our sleep is cursed!
Perhaps a witch~
did cast a spell~
to keep our sleep at bay.
And when it's filled~
she'll come again~
to drag us straight away!
Or, even worse~
maybe a ghoul~
is stealing 40 winks~
by snatching ours~
and draining us~
as though we're vampire-drinks!
Maybe a ghost~
is haunting us~
by howling at the moon!
Maybe a zombie~
has our scent~
and plans on feasting soon!
What horror lurks~
to poke and prod~
to strangle us with sheets?
What creature haunts~
or is it...
Us?
Hopped up on Halloween treats?!?
~~~

This morning,
like all those before,
it was still dark,
when feet hit floor.

I yawned and stretched,
and made my way,
into the kitchen,
to start my day.

But much to my dismay,
I found,
that everything,
was shifted round.

The kitchen shelves,
were full of dust,
the sink coated,
in slime and rust!

The dishes crawled,
with 8-legged things,
bowls filled with thorns,
and scorpion stings!

Just as the oven,
filled with smoke,
a wail broke out,
and I awoke!

~~~
The dark subsides~
the black turns gray~
we've lived to rise another day.
With groans and moans~
we wake to find~
the beasts have claimed our home for their kind!
They've fangs and claws~
make fearsome sound~
they creep and crawl and stalk around.
We brace ourselves~
cover our toes~
they pounce! Those vile cats! Oh noes....
~~~

They draped the cobwebs,
flew the bats~
they crossed the bones,
released the rats
.
The wind was set
 to howl and wail~
the fog blown in,
 the moon set sail.

The goblins, trolls
and werewolves too~
set up their traps,
ready to "Boo!".

Their final
preparations made~
and all the evil
 planning laid...

The monsters faded
out of sight~
and we awoke,
shaking with fright!

~~~
Are you ready? All prepared?
Are you nervous? Are you scared?
Have you prepped, and are you set?
Tricks to play, and treats to get?
Long you've waited. Yes, it's true.
Salivating, all year through.
Remembering those candy dreams.
Forgetting all about the screams!
The day has come. The sun will set.
You must be wary, don't forget!
For while you roam, from street to street,
there's monsters who think you a treat!
They'll stalk and slither, scent your fright.
Be sure to stay where there is light.
They'll be hunting, out of sight.
So DON'T GET CAUGHT this Halloween night!
