Boxing Day Greeting 2022

 These days after Christmas,
as this year runs out,
the house is in uproar,
with clutter about.

We pack away Christmas,
the red and the green,
swap glitter and dazzle,
for things more serene.

The ornaments come down,
we carefully store,
vacuum up pine needles,
each day there are more.

The fir tree is undressed
of baubles and gleam,
adorned fresh in snowflakes,
for mid-winter's dream.

The snowballs and reindeer,
remain in their place,
the garland's embellished,
with snow flurry lace.

Winter frost and snowfall,
a palette serene,
to rest and recover,
refreshing and clean.

Then on to the hard work,
decisions to make,
of old books, games and toys,
which to keep, or take,

to the donation bins,
for second-hand joys,
so there's room to delight,
in new-gifted toys.

Now we all settle in,
to read or to play,
ease back into routine,
of our everyday.

I sit back and observe,
both boys in delight,
building a toy truck,
what a marvelous sight!

And I know from the laughs,
the smiles and cheer,
the spirit of Christmas,
is still very much here.
