"Festive Poems" December Lunchnotes 2017

Rosy cheeks and frosty noses,
Ice cold fingers, chilly toe-ses,
At the bus stop as we wait,
Hoping that it won't be late.
While we shiver in the cold,
Sun rise bathes the world in gold,
The last leaf drops and fall is done,
The holidays are now begun.
The buss pulls up, and on you get,
A caution, quick, lest you forget,
To always choose the good, the right,
You're never far from Santa's sight.
December's here, begun today,
Merry and bright, or so they say,
Full of charm and cheer and joy,
And wishes filled for one sweet boy!
~~~
Twinkling lights, and carols sung,
Glistening ornaments all hung,
Holiday season just begun.
Wishlists to write, cookies to bake,
Cocoa before bed, breakfast cake,
Holiday memories to make.
Chill in the air, just one small part,
Cranberry strings, gingerbread art,
Holiday traditions, at heart.
~~~
Way up high at the North Pole,
The air is getting chilly,
Elves and all the reindeer too,
Are getting downright silly!
That steady diet of cookies,
Of candy canes, and cocoa,
Has all of Santa's workshop,
Behaving rather Loco!
Hard at work, and hard at play,
Each elfkin builds thousands of toys,
They work all night and round the clock,
Filling wishes for girls and boys!
Toy-making is fun, but tiring,
And coffee is bitter, not sweet,
Sugar, and magic, and laughter,
Those elves run on candies and treats!
~~~
Late at night,
while you were sleeping,
through the house,
someone went creeping.
At the door,
he stopped a while,
where a shoe,
caused him to smile.
Bending down,
he dropped his pack,
set to work,
searching the sack.
Katja, the cat,
guardian of night,
watched the saint,
purring in delight.
For she knew,
her master was good,
no coal, but treats,
find, come morning, he would.
St. Niklaus paused,
gave Katja her treats,
then vanished from sight,
leaving a shoe full of sweets!
~~~
In between the jingle bells,
and all the pine and holly,
despite the cold and dark outside,
you may feel rather jolly.
'Twixt crafting-shopping-wrapping,
you're getting so excited,
to see those gifts be opened,
and everyone delighted.
You've chose things with care,
and wrapped them up quite neatly,
gifts big and small, and grand and plain,
with cards signed oh-so-sweetly.
The days are slowly counting down,
the ornaments gets hung,
and everywhere you are or go,
there's carols being sung.
~~~
The stage was set, the "mic's" were checked,
the lights all neatly hung,
the instruments all polished,
sheet music to be sung.
The tables of refreshments
piled high with holiday fare,
the snowflakes and the tinsel
adding quite the festive flair.
The lights descend,
hushed silence quiets the din,
and single file all
the music students then come in.
The melodies and harmonies,
the lyrics and the sound,
a concert to be proud of,
consensus all around!
~~~
Long before your day began,
the elves were in a hurry,
Santa's order-on the way,
deliver the first flurry.
Way up high-in the North Pole,
the science-elves were busy,
a pinch of this-a dash of that,
then mix until quite dizzy.
They knew the wait was over,
the wishes had been counted,
and when 1 million tallied,
the snow brigade was mounted,
Up in the lab-amidst the rush,
just one thing left to make,
one drop of magic-there it was,
 the year's first perfect snowflake!
Great job last night!
~~~
Have you noticed?
Have you seen?
Everywhere,
The red and green?
Silver bells.
Boughs of holly.
Everywhere,
Looking jolly!
In the windows,
Candles. Bright.
Everywhere,
Twinkling light.
12 days more,
Then you'll see,
All you've wished for,
Under the tree!
~~~

"Brr!", I shrieked,
 out loud,
this morning,
when my feet first hit the floor.
Yawn, I stretched
and sighed,
this morning,
up and at'em at half past four!
Cross, I puttered,
in the kitchen,
 sipping coffee from the pot.
"Ouch!", I muttered,
in the kitchen,
 that first sip was way too hot!
Yawn, you slowly woke,
 this morning,
to a warm and cozy hug.
Comfy, settled in,
 this morning,
fuzzy blanket, coffee mug.
"Quick!", I urged you,
 in the kitchen.
Breakfast. Shower. Pack-up. More.
"Brr!", we both said,
past the kitchen,
 bookbag packed, heading out the door.

~~~
An early wake-up call came in,
before the day could even begin.
The phone picked up, the lights set dim,
coffee poured, full to the brim.
Then listening, I hung my head,
put down the mug, went back to bed.
Katja Noel curled up again, and in the quiet, we both lay,
willing ourselves to fall asleep, 2 hours more, for snow delay.
~~~

Have a holly, jolly Monday! It's the last one of the year!
Christmas break is coming up, so give in to the cheer!

Have a carefree, joyous Monday! There's only 5 days left,
until it's break, and school is closed, the teachers all bereft!

Have an easy, breezy Monday! Don't give in to the stress!
Just a few days more (homework's a snore!), until you make egress!

Have a curious, studious Monday! Cram all the learning in!
Learn something new, before the break, and holidays begin!

~~~
Dashing to the bus, on a cold and frosty morn,
one quick kiss goodbye, the driver toots the horn.
Grab your gear and go, the bus steps to alight,
wave goodbye and off you go, driving out of sight.
Oh, jingle bells-jingle bells-jingle all the way! Oh, what fun it is to learn, something new each day!
Oh, jingle bells-jingle bells-jingle all the way! Oh, what fun it is to learn, something new each day!
Dashing down the halls, don't be late to class,
studied hard you did, you know the test you'll pass!
Soon the day is done, the bus pulls up once more,
one quick ride and soon you'll be,
walking in the door!
Oh, jingle bells-jingle bells-jingle all the way! Oh, what fun it is to learn, something new each day!
Oh, jingle bells-jingle bells-jingle all the way! Oh, what fun it is to learn, something new each day!
~~~

Far too early in the morning,
the rise and shine alarm did ring.
All the elves, including this one,
rushed to rise before the sun.

"Four days left!" the call rang out,
and they all began to shout!
Busy here, rushing there,
elfkins panicking everywhere.

So little time, so much to do,
like whirling dervishes they flew.
Toys and books and game to make,
wishes to fill, for goodness sake!

Cookies, cocoa, candy canes,
cranberry strings, popcorn chains.
All the "making" elves were done,
now the "packing" elves begun.

Four days more, the end in sight,
 to pack the sled, for Christmas night!

~~~
There's something magic in the air,
when carols start to play,
when red and green and twinkle lights,
announce the holiday.
And if you're lucky, you just might,
catch snowflakes passing through,
a Christmas, white. A wish come true!
There's magic in that, too!
So while you bustle through your day,
at lessons or at play,
don't forget to just enjoy,
this magic holiday!
Enjoy the decorations,
and all the tasty treats!
Too soon, it's over and it's gone,
too soon it's memory, sweet...
~~~

And so it's here,
the final day,
before the holiday break.
But one half day,
and then you're home,
Christmas memories to make.

There's gifts to wrap,
the tree to trim,
and Christmas cookies to bake.
There's friends to see,
carols to sing,
eggnog and even fruitcake.

If you're lucky,
then you might just,
be first to spot a snowflake.
Of this I'm sure,
we'll have such fun,
tomorrow, when you awake!
