"Festive Poems" December Lunchnotes 2018

 Merry and bright,
With hearts that are light,
We enter the holiday season.

Carols to sing,
Good tidings to bring,
The birth of our Saviour's the reason!

With holiday cheer,
For friends far and near,
It's magical, if you believe.

Spread peace and goodwill,
And have faith that still,
Hope finds us all on Christmas Eve!

~~~
The elves arrived here yesterday,
Before we were awake.
They settled in to work and play,
Happy Holidays to make!
They'll stay with us 'til Christmas Eve,
And keep us merry and bright.
They'll deck our halls before they leave,
To help prep Santa's flight!
So careful what you say and do,
They're always here to see.
Reporting back to Santa, too,
On whether you're merry!
So as you go about your day,
Be merry, kind, and bright.
Be jolly, and those elves just may,
Reward you, Christmas night!
~~~

Carols to sing~
decorations to make~
Tidings to bring~
and cookies to bake.

Wishlists to write~
and wishes to fill~
Snow, falling white~
cocoa for the chill.

Family and friends~
and loved ones draw near~
Everyone spends~
time with those who are dear.

Festive and gay~
this month of delight~
Leading the way~
to Christmas Eve night!

~~~
Way up north~
Where it gets chilly~
The height-impaired folk~
Are acting silly.
Singing, dancing~
As they go~
Stopping to count~
Every flake of snow.
Giggling~
Almost themselves~
Cracking jokes~
Those jolly elves.
Stuffing stockings~
Wrapping gifts~
Pushing each other~
Into snow-drifts!
~~~

The mornings are dark~
the air cold and still~
the winter seems bleak~
beyond our window-sill.

It's frigid and frosty~
so damp and so chill~
when the winter wind howls~
round our house on the hill.

But inside it's toasty~
it's cheerful and bright~
even now in the morning~
the whole house is alight.

With garland and baubles~
the inside's a sight~
full of holiday cheer~
meant to warm and delight.

~~~
Up on the rooftop,
Did you hear?
Might it have been hooves,
Of Santa's reindeer?
Oh! In the kitchen,
Did you just see?
Was that gingerbread meganm,
Attempting to flee?
Look at the chimney,
What is that?
The ashen remains,
Of Frosty's top-hat?
Why, it's all around us,
Don't you feel it near?
The magic of Christmas,
Is already here!
~~~

There's such an awful lot to do,
With Christmas on the way.
So many tasks left to complete,
As Santa preps his sleigh.

There's lists to check and check again,
And all those gifts to buy.
There's wishing for and wondering,
If reindeer really fly.

There's wrapping paper, ribbon too,
And all those cookies to bake.
A tree to chop and lights to hang,
And ornaments to make.

Carols to sing, tidings to bring,
And celebrating to start.
Kindness to share, generosity too,
For Christmas comes from the ❤!

~~~
The days keep getting shorter,
And time is running out.
Those elves have got the reindeer,
They're practicing their route.
That sleigh is filling quickly now,
Stuffed almost to the top.
Kris Kringle's checked his list twice,
Rushing through his workshop.
The final preparations,
Have already been laid.
And every wish and want and toy,
Had already been made.
So quickly now,
The day will come.
When Santa makes,
His late night run.
Be merry now,
It's almost here,
The eve of all,
That Christmas cheer!
~~~

There's something in the air of late~
That makes me want to celebrate.

Perhaps the sparkle of the lights~
On cold and frosty winter nights.

Or maybe it's the cheerful song~
Of carolers, strolling along.

It may just even prove to be~
That tree, decked out so merrily.

~~~
In December,
When it chills,
When the snow comes,
When earth stills...
When the world,
Lies blanketed,
By frost and flakes,
All spark faded...
Then the warmth,
Of spirit glows,
Shining bright,
For all to know...
While winter may,
Rage and shriek outside,
There's comfort and joy,
This festive Yuletide.
~~~

Santa's almost ready,
His sleigh is packed up tight,
His Santa-Suit is pressed and hung,
And not an inch too tight.

He's all set for his midnight run,
All set to swap out treats,
So let's bake up some cookies,
And leave him out some sweets.

~~~
The world is frozen over,
And all the trees are bare,
There's frost upon the meadow,
And snowflakes fill the air.
The morning's cold and dismal,
Still dark as night it seems,
I want to stay right here in bed,
It's cozy in my dreams.
But one day more and 1/2 at that,
Until we both can stay,
Asleep long past the early dawn,
Once you're on holiday.
So sip your coffee, find the crèche,
And let's get through one more,
The promise of your Christmas break,
Is waiting at the door!
