"Spooky Poems" October Lunchnotes 2017

The dark is all around,
there's not a single sound.
You open up your eyes,
and slowly start to rise.
Your senses on alert,
who knows if it will hurt
Suddenly, your ears ring,
Mami says "Good Morning"!

~~~
On a day both dark and dreary,
came a sound,
'twas quite eerie.
Out of nothing did it start,
sent a spasm
through your heart.
Eyes squeezed shut,
buried head,
 desperately, playing dead!
From the darkness
 came the roar,
of a sleeping Michael's snore!
~~~

Among the shadows, there it hides,
with you unaware, that it's inside.

You settle in, let out a sigh,
and just like that, it's time to die.

The shadow grows, you note it's size,
the sudden movement, caught your eyes.

You hold your breath, jump out of bed,
 slam down the shoe, the spider's dead!

~~~
A monster fierce and oh-so-scary,
 claws and fangs and oh-so-hairy.
Sneaks around, here and there,
oh be careful, check under your chair!
Just when you least expect it, attack it will,
leaping out, ready to kill.
Mouth agape, fangs that glisten,
hold your breath, and just listen…Meow!
~~~

From the corner, of the room,
comes in Messenger, of doom.
 Ready to, declare your fate,
 for arriving, much too late.

Forced to cower, in a chair,
trapped inside, the monsters lair.
Down it slams, in front of you,
 this pop quiz, a week past due!

~~~
Time's run out,
the clock strikes nine,
you try to flee,
ignore the sign.
But steady do,
the minutes tick,
faster now,
you feel quite sick.
You feel a twinge,
the chill of dread,
you shrink in fear,
and hang your head.
 But still it ticks,
 for time is cruel,
insists you must,
go back to school!
~~~

Oh the horror! Oh the fright!
The sort that keeps you, up all night.

Nerves are frayed. Heartbeats race.
Suddenly, there's no safe place.

Desperate, you glance around.
Find yourself, on shaky ground.

Terrified, you tried to flee.
When Mami says "There's no coffee!"
 Noooooooooooooo 😱

~~~
In the quiet of the night,
lurking, somewhere out of sight,
eyes are watching,fangs are bared,
and you're feeling rather scared.
Moving slowly, keeping still,
shaking off that dreaded chill,
secretly you glance about,
nerves so frayed you want to shout!
Steady breath, and steady hand,
moving on, as it was planned,
reaching out, as you dare,
though your senses scream "beware!".
Bravely now, you sit and start,
all despite your racing heart,
grab the fork, take a bite…
ATTACK! Katja jumps, what a fright!
And steals your breakfast!
~~~

Breathe in softly,
let it out,
 bite your tongue,
hold back the shout.

Just sneak by,
on tippy-toes,
 before the creature,
even knows.

 If you're careful,
 if you dare,
you might escape,
the monstrous lair.

But be wary,
stay alert,
 if it wakes,
you may get hurt.

Oh no! Look out!
 You woke it up!
Just back away,
and leave the cup!
Don't stop. Don't wait!
Just try to flee!
The Mami hasn't had Coffee!

~~~
Shadows lengthen, darkness falls,
something's lurking in the halls.
Hold your breath, strain to hear,
 are those footsteps getting near?
Grip your desk, hold on tight,
 know it's there, just out of sight.
Out it slips, a whimper sound,
 as you start to turn around.
Run! Hide! Flee! It's too late now!
You've been caught by Mr. Achtau!
~~~

Late at night, while you were sleeping,
past your bed, it went creeping.

In the dark, it slipped by,
 past the cat, twixt yawn and sigh.

Free at last, toward danger it went,
claws and fangs, and evil intent.

Victim found, no chance to defend,
 Henry is, Bunnicula's friend!
*Nom Nom Nom, there go my tomatoes*

~~~
Something's coming,
Something's near,
Something's close by,
Almost here.
Nothing helpful,
Nothing good,
Nothing clear,
Or understood.
Just a shadow,
Just a glimpse,
Just a hint,
Of fiendish imps.
One thing stalks,
One thing sneaks,
One thing pounce,
No more squeaks...
One mouse head rolls past your feet!
(Remember when Katja caught a mouse (decapitated it) and played with it like it was a soccer ball???) Ewww!
~~~

You wake before the sun's come up, and pour the coffee in your cup.
Stretch and yawn and settle in, wait to watch the day begin.

Suddenly, your mouth goes dry, you realize something's gone awry!
Hit the switch, light up the room, can't erase the dark and gloom.

Panic now, the coffee spills, catch your breath, you've got the chills.
It can't be true, you shake with fright, how could this happen overnight?

And still the calendar displays, a week ahead, of all Mondays!
What? Nooooo...you're trapped in Garfield's hell!

~~~
What's that noise?
Did you hear?
It came from over there!
Shhh! Be quiet!
Something moved,
right behind your chair!
Careful now!
Slow and steady,
hold your breath, be still.
Oh no! Look out!
It's ready to pounce!
And jump onto the sill!
Oh, silly me! 'Twas Katja all along! Purrrrr.....
~~~

Do you recall the scary things that keep you up at night?
The monsters and the nightmares that hide just out of sight?
Have you been warned? Are you prepared to fear a bigger fright?
One day to go. They'll come alive at Halloween's first light!

~~~
Late last night, you woke, heart pounding, knew that it was near.
Tossed and turned, till you got up, scared to find it here.
Witches fingers, at the windows, scratching at the panes.
Howling ghosts, thin as air, whispering your name.
Goblins, mummies, werewolves too. Monsters of all kind.
Gather here, to steal your soul, and liquefy your mind.
....but wait, there's more!
Every nightmare, that you've dreamed, suddenly is real.
All those creatures, now descend, stalking their next meal.
Run, you think, or stay and fight? But it's all too late.
This day is theirs, they can't be stopped, they feast on fear and hate.
Shh! Quiet now! Be still and hide! Make sure that you're not seen!
Your only hope's to just survive another Halloween!
~~~

Sad but true. October's through.
And with it go the poems.
November's here. And winter's near.
The mornings just got colder.
So settle in. Let it begin.
Fall's headed out the door.
It's why I wrote. This lunchtime note.
One final little poem.
