Autumn splendor’s run its course,
the leaves all fallen down,
bare branches in the wind do bend,
await their sparkling crown.
The air grows thin and crystalline,
sky gray as far as sight,
December’s here. Our world becomes,
a snowglobe overnight.
~~~
Pitter-patter, little feet,
clearly in a hurry,
close your eyes and listen hard,
and you can hear them scurry.
Sweeping lanes and shaking trees,
gathering the brush,
clearing autumn from the slate,
to and fro they rush.
,
Busy as can be are they,
these elves who work by night,
to set the stage for wonderment,
at first December’s light.
~~~
Wishlists full of hopes and dreams,
toys and games and treats.
Stockings waiting to be filled,
to the brim with sweets.
Ornaments all strewn about,
waiting to be hung.
Gingerbread to decorate,
carols to be sung.
Such a merry list, to-do,
and memories to make.
Just remember Santa’s caution,
and be good for goodness’ sake!
~~~
Twinkling lights through frosty windows,
welcome loves ones in,
where underneath a festive tree,
the holidays begin.
welcome loves ones in,
where underneath a festive tree,
the holidays begin.
Friends and family gather near,
or send long-distance love,
and outside in the dark of night,
snowflakes fall from above.
~~~
Candy canes,
snow covered lanes,
steam on frosty windowpanes.
Churchbells rung,
carols sung,
ornaments on trees are hung.
Frosty chill,
stockings fill,
Holy Night, silent and still.
~~~
Pine and spice fill the air,
of kitchen, hearth and home.
Come together, gather near,
no one’s left alone.
There’s crafts and cookies, games and gifts,
all made or chosen with care,
for all are welcome at Christmastime,
there’s joy for all to share!
~~~
Sugar that shimmers, and frosting swirls,
chips and sprinkles, and chocolate curls.
Cookies and gingerbread houses, sweet,
two for the tray, and one to…eat!
~~~
Rosy cheeks and frost-nipped noses,
bitter chill down to your toes-es!
Outside it’s all sleet and ice,
but here inside it’s rather nice.
Tucked up warm with toasty mugs,
blankets wrapped like cozy hugs.in
Bleak mid-winter outside stays,
in here, it’s Happy Holidays!
~~~
We bring the outside in,
it seems.
with branches, boughs, and trees.
With garlands hung,
cranberries strung,
there, mistletoe you’ll see.
cranberries strung,
there, mistletoe you’ll see.
With logs of pine,
and cedar, sweet,
we’ll build a blazing fire.
And deck the halls,
in Mother Nature’s,
very best attire.
~~~
Get your holly jolly on,
spark some festive cheer!
Give in to the merriment,
the holidays are here!
Sing the carols, wrap the gifts,
make gingerbread delights,
it only comes round once a year,
make Christmas Eve last all night!
~~~
Quick! Wake up! Take in that sight!
Look what happened overnight!
All the world is frozen, white!
Hurry! Bundle! Out the door!
Frosty’s palace to explore.
Snowmen! Snowballs! Snow galore!
Frosty’s palace to explore.
Snowmen! Snowballs! Snow galore!
With coats and mittens warm you’ll stay.
The day is yours! Outside! Go play!
Your Christmas wish? No school today!
(if only!)
~~~
A season full of magic,
of whimsy and delights.
Of garlands, branches, evergreens,
bedecked in twinkling lights.
A whole month of festivities,
to fill the cold, dark nights.
~~~
The frost from the north puts a chill in the air,
brings whistling winds and snow everywhere.
The morning are bitter, so cold and so gray,
bleak winter has settled, through spring it will stay.
But inside we gather, with friends far and near,
share warmth from our hearts, with holiday cheer.
~~~
Tap…tap…tap…at the windowpane,
Frosty’s feeling chill,
writing a message in candycanes,
on your window-sill.
“Please let me in!” is what he’s spell-t,
waiting at the door.
“I wish I could, but you would melt,
and then you’d be no more!”
~~~
Twinkle lights, in a row,
mark the lane, adrift with snow.
Trotting hoofs, sleighbells ring,
from the distance, caroling.
Tucked up snug, you wait and listen,
peer outside to see snow glisten.
Yawn and stretch, then drift away,
miss a glimpse of Santa’s sleigh.
~~~
In the workshop, way up North,
hidden from human sight,
elfkins race about their work,
from break of day, ‘til night.
Their rush begins December first,
when Santa brings the scrolls,
wishlists unfurl, there’s toys to make,
the Head Elf assigns rolls.
Then each is given pixie dust,
which looks a lot like snow,
and with this Christmas magic,
elves off to work then go.
Four and twenty days they have,
of nights just twenty-three,
to load the sleigh full to the brim,
so there’re gifts under your tree!
~~~
Snowflakes nestle in the firs,
holly berries gleam,
icicles on branches grow,
the ‘hills’ are decked, it seems.
We decorate with ornaments,
with baubles, lights, and such,
but Nature far surpasses us,
each pine a festive touch!
~~~
You’ve waited all year long,
compiling your list,
you’ve added to it daily,
to make sure nothing’s missed.
Your wishes fill the spectrum,
from small to big to grand,
you’re sure it will be perfect,
this Christmas that you’ve planned.
But here’s a piece of sage advice,
for maximum delight:
New games and toys may be quite nice,
but it’s LOVE that makes Christmas so right!
~~~
Clip…clop…clip…the sound of hooves,
sleighbells ring from neighboring roofs.
There’s a thud, and then a thump,
down the chimney, on his rump!
There’s a racket….clatter…crash!
Tiny footsteps dodge and dash.
Then a shushing, deep, like snow,
followed by a “Ho! Ho! Ho!”.
~~~
Glisten, glimmer, sparkle, shine,
baubles hung on branches, pine.
Catching light, glitter sparks,
warms the room and lights the dark.
Up against mid-winter’s chill,
candles in the windowsill.
Christmas decorations glow,
sanctuary from the snow.
~~~
If you stay up late at night,
if you’re lucky, you’ll catch the sight,
of reindeer, passing in their flight.
You’ll have to squint to see them close,
rising up on tippy-toes.
The leader has a shiny nose!
If you spot them, I’ve heard tell,
so the memory keeps well,
you may wake to find a sleighbell!
~~~
The Christmas elves are getting tired,
starting to feel uninspired.
Hardworking by day and all night through,
to make sure all your wishes come true.
But toy-making is hard to do,
and so they’re feeling rather blue.
I know what’s sure to perk them up,
a cocoa refill in each elf’s cup!
~~~
Silver stars and sweet golden bells,
twinkle lights on string.
Let’s cozy up our sweet abode,
decorate everything.
Hang the bows, and I’ll string the lights,
yule log set ablaze.
Put out the milk and cookies there,
for our Happy Holidays!
~~~
Christmas wishes, plentiful,
you’ve written out your list.
Now to get it in the mail,
make sure yours aren't missed!
you’ve written out your list.
Now to get it in the mail,
make sure yours aren't missed!
Santa’s checking each one twice,
no wish too big or small.
So long as you have made them,
he’s sure to bring them all!
Now don’t forget what matters,
beyond the gifts and games.
So everyone is cared for,
write down your loved ones’ names.
Then fold it up and mail it,
a stamp or two should do.
And when you open up your gifts,
remember I love you!
